During the 1950s the Communist Party and the government of the People's Republic of Bulgaria undertook an active policy of transforming the previously private family farms into collective, cooperative ones...Collectivization was carried out comparatively quickly and in many cases through pressuring the peasants, in violation of the principale of voluntary formation of the new cooperative farms.
