Abstract
Beninese agriculture does not yet benefit from modern techniques and methods that can boost its development. To meet the challenge of low productivity, various actors intervening in the rural world have proposed to farmers several solutions including new technologies of agricultural products recognized for their high yield. This study aims to identify the factors that explain the adoption of improved varieties of soybeans in the Borgou department of northern Benin. For this purpose, a Probit econometric model has been estimated. The database is based on a survey of 219 producers in 44 villages. The study found that gender, seed availability, seed price and risk perception are the variables that explain the decision to adopt improved soybean varieties among growers.
