50 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE : WHAT DYNAMICS OF LABOUR MARKET IN ALGERIA ?
Main Article Content
Abstract
The dynamics of labor market is generally avoided by current studies. In these studies, the effects of the life cycle, generation and economic cycle are merged. Such combination impact on their accuracy of the analysis and hide other realities on the functioning of the labor market. Cohort analysis decomposes and measures these three effects. Such cohort studies are run mainly in developed countries and Latin America.
In this paper, we try to assess the gender participation in the labor market through cohorts. We used data from LFS run by the National Statistics Office from 1997 to 2007.
The analysis in terms of cohort shows that the active life decreased in men despite the increase in life expectancy. For women the phenomenon is more complex. The average duration of Activity lengthens due to less definite exit from the labor market.
