Abstract
Algeria exports since 2004, on average, 550 thousands tons of scrap per year. This paper analyzes supply and demand of this strategic input for the iron and steel industry on the nationa market and tries to establish the bonds which could exist between national steel consumption in big rise and the capacity of the country to regenerate its layers of scrap. It comes out from the work that national steel consuption, such as it is structured, accentuates the prevalence of "old" scrap and produced few "new" scrap.
This lets us to think that the regeneration of the offer is the fact of accelerated renovation of the park of final consumer goods and programs of renewal and demolition. So, exported scrap comes primarily from produccts at the end of the lifetime.
