In economic crisis climate, which the government had no longer the ability to finance the development of public transportation and in front of the shortcomings of public enterprises occurred the lifting of the state monopoly on the transportation business and the opening of this activity for private investment in 1988.
Being through a totally opening market for urban transportation of passengers; unrestricted market; there is now spirit to pass to a phase of re-regulation as recommended by the World Bank which advocates to market regulation by a managed competition through tenders for the concession of urban transportation services of passengers. In this transition phase we seek to know what are the current situation and the operation of private operators in the urban passenger transportation operating in the city of Algiers? And what are their positions concerning the reforms of the sector envisaged by the public authorities?
