Abstract

Algeria is reforming its educational system since 2003, This enterprise concerns all its components : primary, middle and secondary school, The fundamental school (9 years duration) is spitted in two separate institutions primary school (5 years) and first level of secondary school (4 years) in place respectively of the 1st/2sd level (6 years) and the 3rd level (3 years duration), One of the most important consequences of this reform is the access, in September 2008, of a double promotion of children to middle school, the first issued from the old system (1st/2sd level) and the second from the new primary school. This double promotion will reach. Later (2012/13), the secondary school and, finally (2015/16), the university.
The object if this paper is to proceed to the assessment of the additional social demand for schooling over the transitional period 2008/09 2024/25 and to point out some questions inherent to this reform.
