Abstract

This article presents the state of certification ISO 9001:2000 in some food companies in Algeria. The article approaches the stakes and the contributions of the certification as perceived by the managers of quality as well as the difficulties met during the certification. It also provides the recommendations of these same persons in charge for the companies which have a project of certification. The results show that the three principal reasons of the adoption of ISO 9001:2000 certification are the implementation of a better organization, the reduction of the costs of nonconformity and the response to expectations of the customers. The contributions are of an external nature (recognition, brand image, extension of markets…) but also of an internal nature (improvement of the organization…). The recommendations concern especially the motivation of the management, the awareness and the implication of the employees and the respect of the requirements of the standard.
